I come from a long line of artists on both sides of my family. My great uncle was a world-famous sculptor who owned Johnny Weissmuller’s (the original Tarzan) house in Brentwood, CA. He was commissioned to create a statue of Ava Gardner for the movie “A Touch of Venus.” He was also known for the many memorial statues in town squares and parks across the US, that are still standing today.
My grandfather was a professional trim carpenter in NYC all his life when he arrived from Sicily. He did all his work by hand, never owning a power tool.
My mother was an award-winning artist who specialized in plein air painting, excelling with watercolors. She taught art privately for 20 years before she retired to paint professionally full time.
My father had me playing in his workshop and using his tools, as far back as I can remember. He now helps me in my workshop.
My mom, on the advice of my elementary school art teacher, put me in clay classes at an early age, which I continued until I graduated high school. 35 years later, I taught pottery at our shop in St Johnsbury, Vermont.
I always managed to have a small workshop regardless of where I lived making a few things here and there.
So, I have basically hit the artistic jackpot, genetically speaking, and working with wood has become my preferred medium. I don’t just build furniture; I make each one a work of art to be passed down from generation to generation.
More than anything, I love to help a customer take the vision of their Family Table and make it real for the, leaving their family something tangible to pass down for generations.
“Why I Love What I Do”
“I always remember buying something cheap that did not last when I was younger. It made me realize then that purchasing something of excellent quality does cost more, but it is worth it. It takes more time to make something of attractive, outstanding quality. It takes superior material to make exceptional quality. It takes desire and experienced hand craftsmanship to produce excellent quality. It gives me great pleasure to have worked with people who know what they want, who appreciate superior, long-lasting quality, and it is most gratifying to feel proud of what we have accomplished together.”
